Important and unimportant

— 7:47 pm

Unimportant: Went to Orlando. Had a good time. May post pictures soon.

Important: Tsunami kills over 100,000. Too horrible to really process.

Going to Orlando with the folks

— 8:28 am

And I’m going on a plane for the first time in over three years! I hope I remember how to fly!

This here blog

— 4:48 pm

I’m not going to keep up any pretext that this blog will hold any interest for you except if you want to read about me and what I think about stuff. I’ll try to be interesting and entertaining, but as always, no guarantees.

That’s my Christmas present to you: no more relevance to your life!

Look out world, here comes Jandek

— 1:09 am

Yaaah! Stop blowing my mind! Jandek has appeared in public! This follows hot on the heels of Thomas Pynchon’s appearance on the Simpsons. What’s next? J.D. Salinger as guest judge on American Idol?

Two & a half hours on C-SPAN = important dude

— 11:08 pm

I dig this guy’s take on foreign policy. He’s just about the first guy I’ve seen who supported the Iraq war whom I wouldn’t want to sock in the face as soon as I met him. And if they ever start up the “SysAdmin” corps, sign me up!

My apartment

— 4:06 pm

I don’t have a lot of visitors to my apartment, partly because it’s so messy. There also isn’t really anywhere for more than one person to sit. There’s room for two if I clear all the books off of my other recliner, and more if people are willing to sit on folding chairs.

But my apartment could be interesting to a visitor. If I were a guest in an apartment like mine and I were allowed to explore everything and ask the inhabitant what everything meant, it would be fascinating. And there really is a story behind every item in my apartment and its placement. This apartment is like an extension of myself, almost like a snail’s shell. Perhaps more than anything else, the place is extra storage for all the things I don’t have room for in my brain. Some of the things I don’t have room for don’t fit in my head because they’re physical objects rather than merely ideas. Then there’s a crushingly huge number of books I acquired but never bothered to read.

Someday, I’ll have a living space big enough to have an “extention of my brain” part and a sort of vestibule for accommodating visitors.

Back from Windsor, Ontario

— 12:11 am

My brother and I went to Windsor to see a hockey game. There were lots of fights! It was fun. It reminded me somewhat of the old Columbus Chill. The fans weren’t as rowdy, but the players certainly were.

We also went to the Detroit art museum (yawn) and the Toledo art museum (sweet, again). And Tony Packo’s (awesome again also).

I hadn’t been out of the country in over five years! That’s just crazy.
