I think comments still don’t work…I’m on it…

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a Throat

I don’t know what to say…we’re living in interesting times.

If you’re all out there, here are the alternatives I’m thinking about for when this quarter is over:

  • Appalachian Ramble ‘05! Cumberland Gap, Smoky Mountains, Mt. Rogers, and on up the Blue Ridge.
  • A version of the above, except scaled down to just West Virginia. Seneca Rocks/Spruce Knob, other mountain type stuff…
  • A classic Priceline jaunt, that is, go wherever I can get a room for cheap. Maybe someplace out of season like Phoenix.
  • See if I could fly somewhere and stay with relatives.
  • Buffalo/Niagara Falls/Toronto?
  • Stay home and think of something better to blow a couple hundred dollars on…

Comments are back, I think!

Somebody just told me the comments weren’t working. I guess I should have considered that possibility. I’ll see if I can fix them and then see if people are out there again.

Last(ish) call

If I’ve just been talking to myself, as I suspect, that kind of makes me feel like a loser, so this blog is through unless there’s anyone out there willing to pipe up.

I might try restarting again when either my Master’s program starts or when I start student teaching. Then I would actually have a potential audience.

I’m not going to say Paris Hilton is a worthless human being. I don’t even necessarily think Paris Hilton is a worthless human being. It is furthest from my mind to even suggest that Paris Hilton is a worthless human being. It may well be true that I have never come across any evidence in the popular media that Paris Hilton is anything but a worthless human being, but it is beyond doubt that people are often very different from how they appear on TV. Not that I’m even saying that Paris Hilton appears, through that medium, to be a worthless human being. All that I’m saying, in the final analysis, is that anyone who would venture to claim that “Mike Shecket thinks that Paris Hilton is a worthless human being” is reading way too much into this.

I thought I saw somebody who looked like LvL at Target today shopping for Mother’s Day cards. But the person I saw was shorter than me, and LvL is tall, like a goddess of eternal justice. Sigh…

Speaking of Glenn Danzig…

— 7:59 pm

I want to share with you one of my most prized possessions…my autographed Goblins poster!

It hangs in my bedroom right over where I sleep every night. In case you can’t read the signatures, it says:

“Thanks for being a fan – The Phantom Creeper”
“Hi Mike – Beau Grumpus”
“OHIO ROCKS! ROCK ON MIKE! BUH ZOMBIE”
“ohio sucks! – Dom Nation”

Short story idea? Book?

— 10:31 am

I’ve been reading, or trying to read the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. Some of it is boring, and I think I have a bad translation, but it’s also rather short so I don’t know why I’m having such a hard time. It gives me a good idea for a fiction-infused-with-philosophy piece. I think I would call it “Meditating with Marc Goldstein”. Goldstein would be sort of like Carl Reiner/Mel Brooks/Merv Griffin or somebody like that, an old, rich Hollywood dude (an entertainment industry Caesar, if you will), except he would espouse a modern slant on Stoicism to some kind of young apprentice. Or maybe it would just be my philosophy of life, but I would put it into the mouth of an impressive character to make my opinions seem weightier (c.f. James Redfield’s Celestine Prophecy).

No Chappelle’s Show!

— 6:52 pm

Nooooo! Chappelle’s Show delayed again! Production shut down!

Okay, now let’s think about what we know about this guy. He’s a multi-multi-multi-millionaire now with DVD royalties coming out his ears. What would Dave Chappelle rather do? Make new shows, or stay home, sleep 12 hours a day, and stay stoned the other 12?
